We just added to our little bird family. "toughguy is doing great!" Hes curious about our little additions but we've not and have no plans on introducing except from afar to our new additions..I dont think hes do well with them but he knows we HAVE them and has SEEN them and is curious but also shows no signs of agression or charging over there to find out exactly what they are and why they are in HIS house.

Anyway,we bought not one like planned but two baby cockatiels( ie dont have their full set of top feathers). Supposedly handfed but I am thinking thats just not the case since they are NOT soo handtame but are coming around. For the time being they are in the same cage but we are shopping around for a nother cage so we can separate them. Its a wee bit early yet to tell if we have boys or girls or one of each and I certainly DONT want them even THINKING about becoming a breeding pair if they are from the same clutch of eggs. All this I have to go back and find out as we took them relativly quickly as the people who had them were leaving town.
Whatever the case is, we just love em....theya re starting to nuzzle and cuddle with the kids which is GREAT as they were to be their birds.Ive insterted a few pics that we have of them.. the first was the one were were interested in at first and the second is once we brought both home and I tried to get a good picture.

Congratulations on your new additions. Tiels are such sweeties. Our first bird was a pied cockatiel who was a great talker, much better than our Quaker or Miltary. In fact our Quaker doesn't talk much since Tweety passed away.

aww thats too bad Cindy...I do hope that he starts talkign again....tis sad he took hisgrief for the loss that hard.

We are loving out little baby Pearls as I have come to figure out...our last ones that we had many moons ago ( had to give away because of a major move overseas) were Pieds and sadly the one passed away because she got egg bound and not a whole lot was known what to do or how to prevent that sort of thing then.

Thanks for your words of encouragement, I cant wait til they grow up a little bit more.

Congrats on the new additions! I have two normal grey cockatiels and one of them is singing his morning song as we speak! He wakes up the rest of the gang so I better get breakfast made for them! lol

Cindy, am sorry to hear of your loss! Squawky will come around in time!

Hugs,

Esther

I have come to understand that our little tiels are probably only JUST 4 months old....at least from research I have gathered.

Anyway....I need to do something and quickly. theya re growing and getting big and cute. the Male is singing and learning new songs daily. BUT...I have caught HIM in the act of trying to be sexually active with his cage mate. I knew at some point unless I want babies Iw ould have to seperate them but honestly I didnt know it would be at this age. I know that at their young age that they would not be able to do more than probably 'practice" as when I seperated them from the act I didnt see anything protruding from the male. lol If that made sence.

Sooo what to do? I would like to get a BIGGER cage for them but do I just get a second cage or a BIGGER one and put some sort of seperator in an d watch them like a hawk when they are out and together? Ive never had this issue arise before when we had birds and dont want to make a mistake that would lead to problems down the road. They seem VERY attached to each other, at least on HIS part.
Also what should I start introducing to them first thats not part of their normal pellet and seed diet? I have given them a wee bit of fresh fruit and a few veggies but they igored it...should it be processed into a mush or spoon feeding ect?
