Hi everybirdie,
Part of the reason I've been away from the boards is due to the hummers and all of the work in our backyard. Hubby and I have planted SO many beautiful flowers for them that I've lost count.

Our hard work has paid off. We have a beautiful Hummingbird garden that has attracted a few different spieces of hummers and we are having a great time sitting back and watching the buzzzz all around.

I have three feeders now and I'm making my own nectar once per week. I'll take photos as soon as I can. :)

Oh Yeah! Well, I'll pit my hummers against your hummers any day!

They're soooo much fun to watch. I wish they nested in houses, like the Purple Martins do. Sadly they don't tho :(. Oh well at least I get to see them at my feeders.

Yesterday we turned on the garden sprinkler in hopes the Purple Martins would fly thru to get cooled off from the scorching heat. Poor dears we're panting like crazy. They never did, but a hummer (we only get the Rubythroat species here in PA) took advantage of the water shower. It landed on one of my climbing roses where the water was spraying over & danced around. Then it flew to the power line, again dancing in the water. Next we saw it hover in the water for a long time enjoying a good soaking. Once it was really wet it flew to a dry rose climber & shook off the excess water & preened a little then it was off.

This site has lots of info on Humming Birds. The nectar recipe, flowers they prefer, etc. :

Ha, Ha, Ha Donna! I bet MY hummers are better because mine are getting a nice home cooked batch of nectar instead of store bought. ROTFL You tell your hummers to fly on over to Aunt Angie's house for a REAL dinner!!

Hey Toy, GREAT site. I now have three feeders spaced out in the yard as I'm trying to prevent the one male from chasing off the rest of the hummers who want fo visit the feeders. :) They sure are territorial little things!
