Hi everybirdie,
I should stressed that I need this for ME, not the birds. rotfl. I really like grabbing a muffin before heading to work in the morning but most of the store bought ones are loaded with "junk" and aren't really healthy.
Do any of you have a people recipe for muffins? I probably should have posted this under our "People" talk board but I figure that if the muffins are healthy, I can share them with the flock too.
I like just about any type of muffin. I'm not all that big on Blue Berry but I love spice, carrot and I'm willing to try bran. Please let me know if you have a favorite recipe. Thanks a bunch!

| Angie, Hodgkins Mills makes a good bran muffin mix. I don't have one on hand to check the ingredients, but they are pretty good if I remember. Also, it is a small box, so you don't have to make a load of them. Last time I added bananas and walnuts. I bet you could add shredded carrot and spices to the mix. Donna M |

Thanks Donna. I'll check them out. I found a recipe to make them from scratch and the ingredients are all natural with whole wheat flour too. Now the big test. How do they taste? I'll let you know.:)

Here is the recipe I use all the time. I just add different things to liven it up a little. It's called "Six-weeks Bran Muffins". The really cool thing is you make up the batter and it can be stored in your fridge for 6 weeks...using some each morning for fresh muffins daily.
Here is the Recipe: SIX WEEK BRAN MUFFINS
1 15 oz box Raisen bran 5 cups Whole wheat flour 4 eggs 2 1/2 cups honey 1 cup cold pressed canola oil 5 tsp baking soda 2 tsp salt 1 Qrt. Buttermilk
Optional: Add more raisens, pecans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, wheat bran, wheat germ, rye flakes, dried fruit, bananas whatever you desire.
Mix all dry ingredients and extra raisens or other add-ins. In seperate bowl beat eggs, oil, honey, and buttermilk and then add to dry ingredients. Cover bowl and store in fridge for 24 hours before baking. Bake muffins as needed for 20 minutes at 400* Dough will keep for 6 weeks. Makes 5 dozen.
For birds you can add seeds, Harrisons pellets, corn, Roudybush, peas, fresh fruits etc. You could have 2 bowls going in your fridge...one for people and one for birds :) Have fun, deanna
