Hi all, I am new to this site and I am looking to purchase a playgym for my B&G who is 9 months old, I went to a pet store and they showed me a playgym that they claimed was bulit for large parrots, but this thing didnt even look big enough for a cockateil to enjoy, I want one that is made from manzanita branches with toys and food dishes as well, but hoping not to spend more than $300.00-$400.00...any suggestions??

I have a "Parrot Tower". You can see pics of JaJaBinks on it here:
Note: site may be down for a day or so, as they're doing an ugrade to their system.

I added a center pole extension & carousel toy holder. I got the Amazon size/floor base, because I didn't have her then. The perches are fine for her tho. I removed the swing that came with it & added a boing. She loves this thing & will spend hours on it. I've had the tower for 5 years now & only 2 perches have the tips chewed off. You can change the position of them at will, add remove perches, etc. It washes up so easy, with plain water. You can also take it apart & stick it in the dishwasher if you want.
I think the company that makes/sells it is Pet Stockroom now. Try www.petstockroom.com. Not sure if this is the right link or not.
I also got a rainforest gym, which turned out to be junk. I researched gyms & decided the Parrot Tower was the best for the money & I liked the idea I can make changes to it, unlike a wooden one.

Thak you Lindsay, they look like alot of fun too...I will probably buy one of those too because I will be turning my sun room into the "Rex Room" so many people are having great success with it and I think its only fair that he have his own place so to speak, I did buy him a boing and a macaw swing today...so far so good....

If you ever want to build one, here's one I built years ago. If the photo doesn't show up, there's a link below. Anyway...

I don't have it anymore because I replaced it with the outdoor aviary. Now I built it for outside but it could work indoors too. And yes, it's big! :)
The cool thing is that it was VERY easy and inexpensive to build, in fact I built one for another bird Momma. I was shopping at Home Depot one day when I saw this sort of this ladder thing, used for scalfolding.
Anyway, it made a great ladder for the birds! I bought three of them, using one for the top and the other two for the sides.
I wish I would have taken photos of this thing before I took it down because I kept adding more and more to it. I had natural branches hanging all over it plus toys all over it. My birds played on that thing for HOURS!

Hey hey, Has anyone ever heard of a hanging play gym? I friend of mine suggested it. She doesn't use one but was told to find one to keep her Congo Grey from biting kid french fries...I mean fingers. She also suggested that it deters birds from climbing down and getting on the floor to find whatever they can to chew on or bite! Her husband eventually made another tree for Pidgey that was tall enough to deter Pidgey from flying down. Thanks for listening. Emily |

Lindsey, I just went to the exotic wood dreams website that you had posted. I do believe I found what I was looking for. Thank you! Has anyone used these? My Wacam is very cautious and still doesn't know what to do with toys. Hopefully, he will enjoy something like this. Emily |

Thanks for the link, they have some nice products! Anyone looking for gyms should try and make it to a Bird Mart where you can find them for some serious bargins.
Once you get it home, wash it off and leave it in the direct sun to dry. The sun will kill any possible "things" that the water left behind.

I just found this site, a 5' sand blasted manzanilla tree on a 24"x36" base for $160, even adding shipping it's a steal!

Hi BTW, I just joined tonite! I'm hoping to bring home a B&G as soon as we finish a remodel on the house that will give me a dedicated bird room , right now I have a sun conure that packs big bird attitude into a small package. Her name is Diva.
This looks like a great board and I hope to meet some future friends and most importantly learn as much as possible in order to make me a great birdmom! |
