Does anyone have a source for 1-1/2 inch cotton or sisal rope safe for bird perches? Our Amazon really likes her rope perches and they need replacing.

I make our own similar to the pic Rebecca posted. I go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the rope there. I buy Stainless Steel (Not Zinc) eye hooks and put them in the ends of PVC caps and then glue the rope inside. Then once they dry we use Stainless Steel Quicklinks to attach them to the cages.
Ours have lasted 2 1/2 years now and are still strong as ever!
It's all up to ones preferences!!

The sisal rope you find in local stores (Home Depot/Lowes/Wal-Mart/Etc) is NOT bird safe. It has been treated to prevent rot. It says "natural", but if you read the fine print it says "oiled". The oil is the preservative & contains chemicals to prevent insects & rot.
Also this "oil" can NOT be washed out in the washing machine or dishwasher. It contains a pestacide that remains in the rope.
There are several bird supply sites that sell the bird safe rope, that has not been treated.

Thanks, everyone. I'm really looking for a source to find untreated rope by the foot. We did get a supply from a hardware store some years ago, but now with two birds using it, we've run out. They've moved, but I'll have to try to find their new location and see if we can still get it there. I was going to try sisal because our Amazon is really chewing the cotton up for some reason. We drape it all over the place, so simple perches just won't do.

this site that I found does have straight rope I dont know if that is what you are looking for. Actually if you scroll down on the page they have 5 foot lengths for $1.75.
