Does anyone ever take their birds for a drive? I take my little birds out of the carrying cage when we are on the way home from the vet. They like to sit on my shoulder and watch the other cars drive by. Sometimes(most of the time) we just drive around the neighborhood too. I also say a cute little silver hatch back the other day. The lady driving did that move that you make when your bird is trying to take your glasses off your face. I noticedt then she had a beautiful red macaw with her.

When Rex (my B&G) and I were in NY I would drive all over with him on my shoulder...but here in Texas in this crazy traffic he rides in his kennel which I think he finally accepts. If Im just riding around the subdivision I will let him ride on my shoulder but hes always trying to kiss me, rip my earrings out or chew on my nose...so it doesnt happen that often...lol

| yes we take 3 of our birds with us when we travel around in our rv, there's nothing better than that star rise wake up call, or that first time when in traffic our grey made a police siren sound and had us looking for a place to pull over |

please go to your avian vet and get a well bird certificate, they are required in certain states. I wish I knew how to post photo's on here, cause we just got back from a visit to Kingsport, Tn. and took 4 of our birds along. They were a joy to have, my mother grew very attached to our african congo grey. Also take along a mist bottle in case they get hot and your air conditioner breaks down, also take plenty of papers for their accidents.
Needless to say that when our motor home gets packed, our birds start getting excited and are ready to go with us. We have never been without them in our motor home. Be careful with open doors also. We have a rollout awning with a screened in porch that's part of the awning, but we still are very careful since all our birds are full flighted. |

I just took our bird on his first outing, other than the first time to the groomers to get beak and nails done. I had to go pick up our Chinese food and he was already climbing all over me and refused to go back on his cage so, I just took him with. He did relent to climb around the back of my chair while I ran in to get the food ( daughter,13) was in the car with him. He really seemed to love it...guess i will have to make more "trips" out with him.

We take the girls out when we travel as well though they are always in carriers while in the car. I would strongly recommend this for all birds (big and small). You never know when an accident may happen and then they are unprotected. Sorry I don't mean to damper the moment.
Going on outings is great and they have alot of fun going with us but we try to ensure safety all the way around. With the warm weather coming up always ensure either clipped wings or harnesses or carriers.
It's going to be a great spring and summer I hope!

Ours LOVE to go in the car.
But, remember air bags. One day my DH was driving and our RFM was on me in the passengers seat and DH almost hit the guy in front of us. Would have had I not screamed. My only thought was 'The airbag will kill Frisco'. And it would have, I'm sure. So, now Frisco travels secured in his cage in the back. Not as much fun, but MUCH safer. I don't want a bird!!

My older B&G sits on the back of the seat when i take him to work with me... if we any further like to the vet or somewhere else he gets car sick... yuck... The baby Zeke goes to work with me every day and travels along with me he is in a carrier in the back seat... Air bags are scarey for humans let a lone birds. happy travels but be safe!
