Hello everyone!! I am new here. I have a 16 yr old B&G macaw named Rommel http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/borisfan/Rom1.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/borisfan/Rom_upsidedown.jpg he is a rescue we have had him for 4 yrs. we are his 3rd owners. He loves my husband and my son... He tolerates me.. even tho i care for him feed and clean. but now i own a 7 1/2 month B&G macaw. after i lost my congo in aug 06 i have been heartbroken. and sad that rommel doesnt love me.. so now i have this incredible macaw and he is hand raised hand fed(by me)... and he is a doll. he is a DNA sexed male. we dont have a name yet... i didnt know we were keeping him. so i am actively searching for a name for him. I breed love birds. so looking forward to watching the forum and learning all i can about this young beautiful bird. will post pics of the baby this weekend .

Welcome Jan. I see you're from PA too. I'm central, about 20 miles from Williamsport. Where are you?
Rommel....very pretty :).
If you go to the home page you'll see pics of my B&G Macaw. Her name is JaJaBinks.
I hope you do know that just because you hand raise/feed them doesn't mean they'll pick you as their mate.

Jan: Let him pick his name. Try a few out & see which on he likes the best. Start with picking a letter you like & then find names starting with that letter. All of my dogs over the years, I've had allot of them(used to breed am down to 4 now) names start with "S". All of my parrots names start with "J".
JaJaBinks previous name was "Dubie"!! She's never said her previous name. I considered calling her "Dakota", but Huz actually suggested JaJaBinks(we dropped the "r's") after the silly character in the Star Wars movies. She took to it right away & says it all the time. It fits her to T, as she's so silly most of the time.
Poconos....are ya snowed in, LOL.

Thanks Natalie. well i joined a lovebird forum back in november and its great. i dont have a pet lovebird i have breeder lovebirds.so yesterday i thought to myself.why not look for a macaw forum, there has to be one... well then i stumbled accross Macaw Dreams.. so here i am. i have baby pics of my lil guy, My intention was to buy him from a breeder and raise him. handfeed and such and sell him(i have a small pet supplies store in the poconos) well the lil guy has weasled his way into my heart and my husbands also.. so We are keeping the lil bugger.http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/borisfan/IMG_5508.jpg here he is in nov just starting to perch. Well we are iced in at the moment if you didnt get the snow/ice up on wed you were in trouble.... we did so we can get in and out but the interstates are a disaster.... so thanks for the sympathy Natalie... I think i will enjoy posting here.. so far you guys are great... thanks Toy about the name.. i talk to the guy all the time and all the names i say he just looks at me.. guess i havent found one yet... will keep trying...

Welcome Jan! Mt hysband and I have NIMO - our wonderful almost 9 year old BG. Our story is similar - we were his 3rd and forever home by the time he was 4. He adored my husband, and me when Mark isn't around, LOL. I can snuggle with him a little bit, but he's a hands-off type of bird. Nimo is a pistol and keeps us on our toes :-) Pamela

Pamela & Nimo, thanks for the welcome!! Rommel likes to be touched, i touch him and pet him even though he squeels like a girl sometimes. he rubbs his head on my chin... and gives kisses to me AS LONG as daddy and my son arent around then THEY are HIS and HIS alone...lolhe is fun we have learned he loves to play "wrestle" and roll over. he is a fun guy "most of the time"... wel looking forward to the forum... thanks again still thinking of a name for the baby

Oh you guys and your big birds, they are sooo beautiful!!! Its soo making me wish I could just go get one. Welcome to the group, I do hope that you find a name for your precious soon. Toughguy came with his...and it fits to a "T". He likes to pretend hes all tough but it also describes his life up til this point as well. If not we would have come up with a name that describes his personality .
We had a peach front conure once that liked his name so much that hed chant it like he was a one bird football team, being rooted on to victory.
Our bird is very similar to Nimo...hes not into being overly handled wich is fine...but IS discovering the finer points of a cuddle. Especially when I gte him all bathed up and wrap him in a towel for drying not for long but long enough and without me forcing him.

Hi Jan, welcome to the group. Your pictures are great! I just love the way macaws hang upside down. We are the third home for a 5 year old B&G (can't say last, cuz hopefully she will outlive us!). Julie came to us last spring and we love her to pieces. We are in San Diego County. It was 85 today and dry as a bone - we're hoping for rain next week! Sure wish we could take some of the moisture off your hands.
